6-berth sleeper train tickets on Vietnam Railways' SE trains start from 355.000VND for an upper berth from Hanoi to Vinh. The 6-berth cabin is the cheapest sleeper class on SE trains, and an upper berth costs 23% to 28% less than the cheapest berth in a 4-berth cabin on the same route. Prices were checked on Vexere in October 2026.
A 6-berth cabin is an air-conditioned sleeper cabin on Vietnam Railways' SE trains, with 6 berths arranged in 2 facing rows of 3 tiers each. Each 6-berth cabin is an enclosed compartment with a sliding door that locks from the inside. On the ticketing system, the 6-berth cabin is listed as "Giường nằm khoang 6 điều hòa" (air-conditioned 6-berth sleeper).
Each 6-berth sleeper car on SE trains has 42 berths divided into 7 cabins. A 6-berth cabin berth is about 78 cm wide and 190 cm long, with a thin mattress about 3 cm thick, a light blanket and a pillow.
Amenities in the 6-berth cabin include:
6-berth cabin tickets have three price levels by tier. The lower berth is the most expensive and the upper berth is the cheapest. The biggest drawback of the 6-berth cabin is the upper berth. The upper berth sits right under the ceiling of the car, so passengers cannot sit up straight and have to lie down or sit hunched over.
The lower berth in a 6-berth cabin suits elderly passengers, families with young children and anyone who wants to sit up comfortably. The middle berth suits solo travelers who want privacy at a moderate price. The upper berth suits young travelers who want the lowest price and only need a place to sleep. The upper berth costs about 21% to 23% less than the lower berth on the same route and departure date.
The lower berth is the most expensive berth in a 6-berth cabin, for example from 1.731.000VND from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. Passengers in the lower berth can sit up comfortably, enjoy the view through the window, get in and out without climbing and feel the least train movement. The downside is that passengers from the middle and upper berths often sit on the lower berth during the day, which can feel less private.
The middle berth is priced in between, for example from 1.562.000VND from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. The middle berth has less headroom than the lower berth, so passengers can sit up but have to bend their head slightly and cannot sit fully upright. In return, the middle berth is rarely used as a daytime seat by others, has moderate train movement and is easier to climb into than the upper berth.
The upper berth is the cheapest berth in a 6-berth cabin, for example from 1.330.000VND from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, about 401.000VND less than the lower berth on the same day (13/10/2026). The upper berth sits right under the ceiling, has room only to lie down, feels the most train movement and is close to the air conditioning vent, so it is often colder. The upper berth requires a high climb, so it is not suitable for elderly passengers, pregnant women or young children.
The same lower berth in a 6-berth cabin can have several prices because Vietnam Railways sets a separate fare for each SE train and adjusts fares by departure date. Two different SE trains, or the same SE train on different dates, can differ by a few hundred thousand dong for the same berth.
Vietnam Railways tickets show a seat code for each berth tier. In the Vexere survey, every 6-berth sleeper car on all 8 routes used three seat codes: BnLT1M for the lower berth, BnLT2M for the middle berth and BnLT3M for the upper berth.
Prices differ by SE train. SE trains differ in speed and schedule, so each SE train has its own fare table. On the North–South line, SE1, SE2, SE3 and SE4 are the fastest trains, taking about 33 to 34 hours. The SE1 to SE4 group had the highest lower berth prices in the 6-berth cabin on all 5 survey dates. SE9 and SE10 take about 38.5 hours, the slowest on the line, and had the lowest lower berth prices on Tuesday 13/10/2026.
Prices differ by departure date. The price of the same SE train can change from one departure date to another. The table below shows lower berth prices in the 6-berth cabin from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on 3 SE trains.
| Departure date | SE8 | SE10 | SE4 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday 13/10/2026 | 1.791.000VND | 1.731.000VND | 1.872.000VND |
| Thursday 15/10/2026 | 1.791.000VND | 1.963.000VND | 2.209.000VND |
| Saturday 17/10/2026 | 2.110.000VND | 1.963.000VND | 2.209.000VND |
SE8 rose from 1.791.000VND on 15/10 to 2.110.000VND on 17/10. SE4 stayed at 2.209.000VND on both 15/10 and 17/10. SE10 was the cheapest on 13/10 but more expensive than SE8 on 15/10. All three SE trains used the same type of 6-berth sleeper car (car code Bn42LM), so the price differences in the survey did not come from the car type.
Passengers looking for a good 6-berth cabin fare should compare several SE trains and a few nearby departure dates on Vexere before booking.
The table below compares the 6-berth cabin on 5 SE trains from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
| Train | Departure time | Travel time from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City | 6-berth cabin lower berth price | Car notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SE1 | 21:45 | 32 hours 45 minutes | 1.872.000VND to 2.209.000VND | Air-conditioned 6-berth sleeper car |
| SE3 | 19:20 | 34 hours 10 minutes | 1.872.000VND to 2.209.000VND | Air-conditioned 6-berth sleeper car |
| SE5 | 08:00 | 34 hours 20 minutes | 1.791.000VND to 2.110.000VND | Air-conditioned 6-berth sleeper car |
| SE7 | 06:00 | 35 hours | 1.791.000VND to 2.110.000VND | Air-conditioned 6-berth sleeper car |
| SE9 | 13:00 | 38 hours 26 minutes | 1.743.000VND to 1.963.000VND | Air-conditioned 6-berth sleeper car |
The 6-berth cabin on SE3 and SE4 suits passengers who want a fast train with an evening departure. SE3 leaves Hanoi Station at 19:20 and takes about 34 hours to reach Saigon Station. SE4 leaves Saigon Station at 19:20 and takes about 33 hours to reach Hanoi Station. In the survey, SE3 and SE4 used the same type of 6-berth sleeper car as other SE trains, but their lower berth prices were about 80.000VND to 100.000VND higher than SE5 and SE7. Passengers who want to save money and are not in a hurry can choose SE9 or SE10. SE9 and SE10 take about 4 to 5 hours longer but had the lowest lower berth prices on the route in the survey.
The table below compares 6-berth and 4-berth cabin prices on the same train and the same date, 13/10/2026.
| Route | Train | 6-berth lower berth | 4-berth lower berth | Extra cost for 4-berth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi | SE10 | 1.731.000VND | 1.947.000VND | 216.000VND |
| Hanoi to Da Nang | SE9 | 981.000VND | 1.115.000VND | 134.000VND |
| Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang | SE8 | 461.000VND | 524.000VND | 63.000VND |
Passengers can choose based on trip length. On trips under 10 hours, such as Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, the difference is only a few tens of thousands of dong, so a 6-berth cabin is enough for one night's sleep. On trips over 20 hours, such as Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, the difference is about 216.000VND, so a 4-berth cabin is worth considering for passengers who want to sit up a lot during the day. Passengers who want to save the most on long trips can still choose the upper berth in a 6-berth cabin, which costs about 511.000VND less than the middle berth in a 4-berth cabin on SE10.
